Acupuncture is a branch of Chinese Medicine that has been practiced for over two thousand years. Today in the UK acupuncture continues to grow in recognition and use. The National Institute for Clinical Excellence advises GPs to refer patients for acupuncture treatment for a number of complaints including lower back pain and migraines. This growing recognition is allowing acupuncture to integrated into the medical profession and become available alongside other medical interventions.

Your first acupuncture treatment is about me getting to know you, so that your treatment is exactly right for you. I’ll need to know your complaints, medical history, medication and bodily activity. I will want to know who you are and what makes you tick. This is followed by an examination of posture, tongue and the radial pulse.

Acupuncture treatments last approximately twenty minutes and you will receive them lying down or sitting. I suggest you wear comfortable clothing. The hair fine acupuncture needle will be inserted into the skin at certain points, all needles are sterile and single-use. Moxabustion (warming needle technique), cupping and massage may be used in combination with the acupuncture needles. Throughout I’ll ensure your comfort and monitor your progress.

Most people have a course of treatments, I usually recommend a minimum of three. Weekly treatments will be required at first and after this I suggest follow up preventative treatments to maintain good health.
